The Makers We Follow

Influencers We Look to for Inspiration.

Dean Wilhite, Senior Art Director
I follow @jimmydiresta. Jimmy is the guru of making. Also @AlecSteele, who is a very young maker with a likable personality, and @wintergatan2000, Martin is a musician who is building a marble machine that plays music like a music box.

Kari Griffith, Traffic Director
I watch out for @letsgomakeart, a subscription company for watercolor kits. I aspire to paint with watercolor, but I haven't tried it yet. Also @forestceramicco is Sean Forest Roberts, a ceramics artist, and same thing: I aspire to make ceramics, but I don't know where to start. I just enjoy his work.

Jon Gray, Accounts Payable Clerk
I follow @wildemoonleather. I found Ian’s leather work thanks to a friend who apprenticed with him. He makes custom leather products for individuals as well as larger corporate orders. I also keep up with @ellsworthwoodworks. Tommy was a fraternity brother at OU who also happens to craft excellent woodwork items.

Courtney Pielsticker, Senior Strategist, Audience Engagement
I really love @tarynslawson_. She is a rug weaver in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who built her own loom from scratch. I found her profile when searching for things to do on our trip to Santa Fe last winter. We reached out to her on IG, and she actually invited us to her home and showed us her process for making the rugs. She hand paints her designs on paper and then replicates them on the loom. Super cool experience.

Brent Whitsett, Art Director
I follow a lot of makers. Prometheus Design Werx, @bookofalchemy, and @midwinterco, to name a few.

Ryan Winkler Herr, Managing Editor of Special Projects
I recently got into hand embroidery, so I follow a lot of embroiderers. I am particularly inspired by @shimunia and @saltstitches. Their work is incredible. I also follow @threadstories because the content is always hilarious, weird and so creative.
